Our PROGRAMS

lufuno ovc (social WELFARE, capacity building)
Comprehensive support for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC), addressing the impact of HIV/AIDS, food insecurity, and substance abuse in child-headed, youth-headed, and single-parent households. 

INTERVENTIONS

NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT: Decent meals are hard to come by hence we provide 50 nutritious food parcels on a monthly basis to the household where these children live. We also help to start and run nutritional gardens for families to produce the food they need themselves.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT: We provide homework supervision, academic performance support, school uniform and other learning needs. We also provide a link between families and schools doing all we can to make parents or caregivers involved and active in the children's education as well as motivate the children to remain in school for to achieve top academic grades and prosperity.

HEALTH SUPPORT: Giving care and support to children and adults who have chronic conditions. We facilitate clinic referrals and patients on ART are accompanied to relevant clinics and hospitals. Home visits are also conducted to ensure treatment adherence.

PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT: All our beneficiaries receive psychosocial support from the organization. We conduct new intake assessment screening and internal referrals for required assistance such as, bereavement counselling and lay counselling for walk in clients. We conduct workshops and awareness campaigns on child protection and sexual health. We do external referrals to psychologists and child welfare for placements and further interventions.

PHVP Wellness Program (Health, Social Welfare)

In collaboration with HIVSA, the organization launched PHVP Wellness Programme to effectively reduce the high rate of teenage pregnancy and HIV infection among children between 0 to 18 years, while offering comprehensive support to those who are infected

INTERVENTIONS

DREAMS

The DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe) program, focuses on reducing HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). Key aspects include:

Target Population: It specifically aims to empower AGYW, who are disproportionately affected by HIV.

Comprehensive Interventions:  The program utilizes a "basket of interventions" that address multiple factors contributing to HIV risk. These include HIV prevention services, Access to care and treatment, Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education, Economic strengthening, educational support, Addressing gender-based violence.

Empowerment Focus: DREAMS seeks to empower AGYW to make informed choices about their health and well-being.

Goal: The overarching goal is to reduce new HIV infections and sexual violence among AGYW

OVC PROGRAM

Goal: To improve the health and well-being of OVC, adolescents, and youth affected by and vulnerable to HIV.

Comprehensive Support: Provides case management, addressing various needs such as healthcare, education, and social support.

Preventive Measures: Focuses on preventing HIV infections and sexual violence, particularly among adolescent girls and boys.

Family Strengthening: Works to stabilize households by supporting caregivers and promoting positive parenting.

Evidence-based interventions to address the various factors that make children and adolescents vulnerable, linkage to HIV testing, care, treatment, and support for those affected by gender-based violence.

In essence, the OVC programs aim to create a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children and adolescents, enabling them to thrive and reduce their risk of HIV infection.

KIDZ ALIVE

The KidzAlive program, particularly within the context of PHVP, is a crucial intervention focused on improving the health outcomes of children affected by HIV. Here's a concise summary:

Child-Centered Care: KidzAlive prioritizes a child-friendly approach to healthcare, ensuring that children receive age-appropriate information and support.

Key Focus Areas

HIV Testing and Counselling: It promotes child-friendly HIV testing services.

Disclosure: It facilitates health-promoting disclosure of HIV status to children, in a sensitive and supportive manner.

Treatment Adherence: It provides support to help children adhere to their HIV treatment regimens.

Psychosocial Support: It addresses the emotional and social needs of children affected by HIV.

Goal: The overarching goal is to improve the quality of care and health outcomes for children living with or affected by HIV. KidzAlive aims to create a supportive and understanding environment for children affected by HIV, empowering them to manage their health and well-being.

food gardening program (FOOD SECURITY, ENVIRONMENT, CAPACITY BUILDING)

INTRODUCTION: At the heart of Beehive lies a deep commitment to empowering our beneficiaries to achieve food security and break the cycle of poverty. Our home food gardening initiative is a cornerstone of this mission, providing practical, sustainable solutions that address immediate nutritional needs while fostering long-term self-sufficiency 

oBJECTIVES
Alleviate Food Insecurity: To combat hunger and malnutrition by enabling beneficiaries to grow nutritious food in the comfort of their own homes.
Empowerment and Skills Development: To equip individuals with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for successful home gardening and promoting self-reliance. 
Enhance Community Resilience: To build stronger, more resilient communities capable of withstanding economic and environmental shocks. 
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Seed and Seedling Distribution:

We provide high-quality, locally adapted seeds and seedlings of essential vegetables and herbs.

We prioritize open-pollinated varieties, allowing beneficiaries to save seeds for future planting, and fostering sustainability. 

Comprehensive Training and Workshops

We conduct hands-on workshops covering essential gardening skills:

(a) Soil preparation and composting

(b) Seed sowing and transplanting

(c) Watering and irrigation techniques

(d) Pest and disease management (using organic methods)

(e) Harvesting and preservation.

We provide ongoing support and mentorship through experienced facilitators and community volunteers.



Backyard Garden Establishment Support:
We assist beneficiaries in assessing their backyard space and developing a suitable garden plan.
We offer regular follow-up visits to provide guidance and address challenges.
Nutritional Education: We conduct workshops on healthy eating and food preparation, emphasizing the nutritional value of homegrown produce.
Community Building and Knowledge Sharing:
We facilitate community gardening groups and support networks, fostering peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing.
We encourage the sharing of surplus produce within the community, strengthening social bonds.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
We track the progress of the initiative through regular monitoring and evaluating, collecting data on:
(a) The number of gardens established
(b) The yield and variety of produce harvested
(c) The impact on household food consumption and nutritional intake
(d) The reduction in food expenditure
This data informs program improvements and ensures that we are achieving our objectives.

Impact and Sustainability: Our initiative empowers beneficiaries to take control of their food security, reducing reliance on external aid. By promoting sustainable garden practices, we contribute to environmental conservation and long-term soil health. beehive buddies program (arts & capacity building)

Beehive Buddies, a series of interactive puppet shows designed to equip children aged 4 -13 (Grades RRR - 7) with essential life skills.  

The shows tackle critical issues including Bullying, Stranger danger, Safeguarding secrets, Body awareness and physical boundaries, Life skills like decision-making and communication, Self-esteem and resilience, Basic health, hygiene, and disease prevention, Understanding HIV/AIDS and addressing related stigma, Physical abuse, Discrimination and acceptance of diversity

Engaging Delivery: Performed in English, IsiZulu, and Setswana, these lively and colourful puppet shows run for 15-45 minutes, with age-appropriate messaging and durations. Featuring short narratives interlaced with participatory songs, they capture young audiences and foster engagement. 

Interactive Learning: Each performance concludes with a facilitated discussion, creating a safe and open space for children to discuss the themes presented. This interactive learning experience encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and contextualization of the issues explored.

Building Strong Individuals and Communities: By combining engaging puppetry with facilitated discussions, Beehive Buddies fosters the development of key life skills in children. The program aims to equip them with the knowledge, confidence, and problem-solving abilities to make informed decisions, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, practice self-care and understand healthy living, respect themselves and others, develop tolerance and acceptance of diversity, Contribute positively to their families, communities, and the environment 

Targeted Learning for Lasting Impact: Beehive Buddies shows are meticulously designed for specific age groups, ensuring strong identification and emotional connection with the characters and storylines. The program incorporates contemporary music, language, and references relevant to the children's experiences, fostering a sense of connection and promoting impactful learning.
